Memo 02

Inventory is Strategy

Most founders think of inventory as an operational issue.

It is not.

Inventory is strategy.

Every consumer brand eventually confronts the same reality:

Inventory determines cash flow. Inventory determines margin. Inventory determines risk.

Excess inventory forces discounting. Discounting erodes brand equity. Brand erosion destroys long-term pricing power.

At scale, inventory discipline becomes one of the defining characteristics of successful brands.

The best operators understand this early.

They build systems that answer three questions continuously:

What will sell. What must be produced. What should not exist.

Every unit of inventory is a capital allocation decision. Treat it accordingly.
